Emery scowled at Robert and curled up on his stack of insulation. Piper got up and curled up beside him.
"Stop antagonizing him." she yawned.
"Stop mothering me." Emery grumbled sleepily.
Piper ruffled his hair and fell asleep, seconds later Emery was too.
--
The next morning in Kaiser and Angani's apartment Alan was trying to salvage some food for their breakfast but their house had already been ransacked of all non perishables. He sighed and went outside to gather some snow to boil water to cook a bag of oats.
Kate was passed out asleep in bed snuggled close to Kalyn for warmth, hands curled around Kayln's arm like it was a teddy bear.
Angani was already awake, he hadn't slept well, between the scare from yesterday and worrying about Kaiser's wound. He was sitting up and and stroking Kaiser's hair to wake him. Soon they would be in a safer place, hopefully the travel wouldn't hurt him more. "Wake up, babe." he murmured.
--
Rapid squinted at the light shining through the cracks int he boarded up window and he groaned and pressed a hand to his eyes. He felt horrible. He stretched out stiffly and rolled over on top of Dane unknowingly, falling back asleep with his arms around him, face resting on his chest like a pillow.
--
Sheila rubbed Elroy's shoulder. "Elly wake up, we're moving into the city."
Elroy jolted awake, eyes flicking around in confusions before remembering the break out. He sighed in releif and sat up. "Moving?" he yawned. "I... I hope its not because of me." he said guiltily.

Zeke looked over at him with a guilty frown. Though as he fussed over his appearance, he couldn't stop his expression from melting into a tiny smile. He watched him walk over and let his arm snake around his middle. "Yeah," he murmured. "I missed this...I missed you." He hesitated before pressing a kiss to his forehead. He'd just gotten him back. He didn't want to lose him again. But he had a new life now. He had someone else now...
---
Dane, who was sleeping face up, his mouth open in a snore, snorted awake as something rolled on top of him. He tried to lift his head only to let it fall back down against the ground with a groan. "Oh fuck..." he whined, pressing his palm against his throbbing forehead. "I'm gonna die."

Kalyn stirred as the morning light broke across her face, lifting her head blearily to glower at the split in the curtain. She let her head fall back against the pillow, exhausted, before feeling a breath across her cheek. Eyes snapping open, she realised how entangled she had become with Kate overnight. Sucking in a breath, she froze, wanting to pull away before Kate woke up, but loathe to disturb her.
---
Kaiser relished the attention, stretching out an arm lazily around Angani. His back twinged and he yanked his arm back quickly, wincing. "I'm up," he croaked, pushing himself up. "I'm up. Are we leaving soon?"
---
Johnny gave Elroy a pat on the back as he walked by, duffel bags slung over his shoulder. "Nah, mate" he said. "We were looking to relocate anyways."

Elroy was sure Johnny was fibbing but didn't have the energy to debate. He stood on shaking legs looking like a newborn colt. He pulled on one of Johnny's spare jackets and zipped up, relishing the warmth, knowing they were about to brave the cold winter weather. He hadn't slept that well since the surge. He tried to help Sheila with her bags but he was weak from starvation and the dunk int he bay yesterday. Nailah's punch had also given him twin shiners under both eyes. He looked like death, but he was feeling better than he had in weeks. He slung another blanket around his shoulders like a poncho and followed Sheila outside.
"Its pretty." Sheila sighed a cloud of breath at the sun-sparkled snow on the beach. "Wish it would melt though." she squeezed Johnny's hand. "We'll walk slow." Bobby bounded ahead, unphased by the deep snow, he plowed through it muzzle first, tail wagging wildly at the idea of going for a walk.
--
Rapid heard the words and frowned in confusion, shifting he snapped a pencil in his coat pocket and his eyes snapped open thinking it was the sound of a broken bone, he looked down at Dane's pained face and gasped in horror, leaping off and scuttling backwards. "D-Dane did I hurt you??" he stammered worriedly. "I'm so sorry! I... I didn't know you were there! Is it broken? Where did I hurt you??" he jumped to his feet, the room spun but he was too worried for Dane to care as he swayed for balance.
--
Angani nodded. "I think so. I just wanted to talk to you." he squeezed his hands. "About yesterday I..." he sighed, face flushing in embarrassment. "Don't... don't tell anyone what happened. Please." he winced. "They... they might think its funny or... something and... and I can't relive it." he hugged his knees close. "And I can't know other people know, I already feel stupid enough for letting it happen to me in the first place I just..." his voice shook. "I just thought it would never happen in the first place but it has and now I feel like I'll never get over it." he rubbed his welling eyes. "Just don't tell anyone..."
--
Kate heard Alan bustling around in the next room and stretch out with a loud squeak and blinked awake. "Morning sunshine." she smiled tiredly. "Guess we should get up..." she groaned and sat up, rocking some serious bedhead.

Alliser grimaced when Zeke pressed a kiss to his forehead, feeling as if the moment had become far too intimate. It was dangerous territory, as things were. He wasn't prepared to let himself get attached to something that could only be temporary. He stepped out of Zeke's arms, fixing his collar, and cleared his throat. "I'd better go," he said, looking at him carefully. He tugged the door open. "You know how to reach me, in any case." Before he could second guess himself, Alliser leant forwards, pressing a kiss against Zeke's mouth. He pulled away, and hastened downstairs. He fetched his coat from where he had abandoned it the night before, searching the room for Levi and Layla. "Right, ready to go?"
---
Johnny agreed, wondering if Elroy needed any more layers. He was so bone thin, it looked like any chill would pass straight through him. "Once we find a place, we'll cook up a nice big breakfast for you," he promised him cheerfully. "With whatever we have left, I mean. I can make it work."
---
Kaiser felt his heart stutter. He pulled Angani into a hug, wrapping his arms tightly around his shoulders. "I won't," he said shakily. "Of course I wouldn't, I...I'm sorry, Angani. This shouldn't have happened to you." He squeezed his arms tighter, wishing he could do better for him.
---
Kalyn jumped as Kate suddenly rose up, and she quirked a brow at the state of her hair. "You look fantastic," she grinned. "I don't think I could do better if I tried."

Elroy felt a little sick at the thought of a lot of food but he nodded anyway. As they walked towards the new safe house they passed Molly's statue and he paused in front of it before tugging the blanket off his shoulders and tying it around her like a shawl. "I gotta get to the library." he coughed. "Figure out what I'm gonna do."
--
Angani sniffed and rubbed his eyes. "I know its not the attitude I should have I mean, I've helped students on the campus after the same sorta thing and I'm back peddling." he sighed. "I just keep thinking of what my dumb brothers would say..."
--
Kate laughed. "I probably look like a weed patch." she got up and shivered. "Oh I'll never get used to that cold in the morning!" she danced in place before yanking on her socks and coat. "Come on." she tossed Kalyn her jacket.

Johnny nodded and began to lead them towards the library. He knew with the numbers the library would make a good defensive barrier between unwanted Rebels and Elroy, but felt unsure about leaving him there all the same. He glanced at Sheila, squeezing her hand. "Feel like living with the bookworms, honey?"
---
Kaiser shook his head, rubbing circles into Angani's shoulder. "What they would say doesn’t matter,” he said firmly. “They’re not going to get a chance to say it. And they’re dumb if they wouldn’t respect your feelings. You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
---
Kalyn snatched her jacket out of the air and pulled it on, following her wearily into the next room.

Sheila smiled. "Sounds fine, maybe we can see how the other groups are doing too." she looked at the statue as they passed. "You really think you can revive her, Elroy?"
Elroy sighed. "I don't know. Its a guess. And a wild one at that." he stumbled in the snow and leaned against a parked car to stable himself. "I gotta try something though, I can't leave her like that. It's like a kick to the gut just looking." he picked up Bobby out of a deep snow drift and back onto their path. "I gotta patch my hand too." he looked at his black and purple left hand wrapped in a tube sock.
--
Angani leaned against him and shut his eyes. "I love you." he sighed in relief, just glad he was here, and wishing he was more safe and healthy. He should have gotten that poker sooner. Now Kaiser was hurt. He looked up as Alan knocked on the door.
"Oats ready, lets eat so we can get back to base."

Johnny fretted over Elroy at a distance, twisting his hands. He knew the constant fussing was getting tired, so he made an effort to back off, though he couldn't wipe the distressed look from his face. "At this point I kinda just want to wrap you up in bubble wrap," he grinned, picking his head up as the library came into view. "And just maybe I will!"
---
Kaiser kissed Angani softly, jumping as Alan knocked. He pulled away shyly, as if Alan could see through the door, and carefully made his way off the bed. His hand was latched onto Angani's. As he lead them both to the table, he groaned lightly at the smell. "That smells amazing," he said, dropping into one of the chairs.
Kalyn was busy scraping the bottom of her bowl, nodding her head easily. "Wish there was enough for seconds," she grunted through a full mouth. "I haven't eaten this good in weeks."
---
As Alliser snuck out of the building with Levi and Layla, Lorenzo stumbled back into the bar, nursing his head. He'd ended up spending the night in one of the few safe houses scattered around their district, and had pilfered most of their alcohol supply. He made his way up the stairs, holding onto their stair rail miserably, before tripping into their room. "Mornin' Zeke," he smiled brightly at his boyfriend. "How did things go with your brother and - and that guy, last night?"

Zeke wearily sat down on the couch. He tightened the sheet around him, trying to protect himself from the miserable, cheap feeling that was quickly washing over him. What had he just done? He was supposed to be over Alliser, not falling head over heels and jumping into bed with him again. He dropped his head back against the cushion when the door swung open. He jumped and let out a tiny yelp. "Hey!" he squeaked, clearing his throat when his voice came out much higher than usual. "Hey, uh...what? Oh yeah...it was fine." He stood, fumbling with the sheet nervously. Pull yourself together, you horrible, sinful adulterer you're going to hell. "I'm so sorry," he blurted out before forcing himself to continue, "...for making you uncomfortable last night. He uh...he was some...some guy I knew in high school and I didn't expect to see him, that's all. Haha, isn't that funny when you see someone and you don't expect it? Haha! Small world, I guess hah..." Stop talking, you idiot. He bit his lip and stared at the ground.
--
Levi and Layla walked on either side of Alliser, staring at him unblinkingly. "So..." Levi began as they rounded a corner. "What'd you two get up to last night?"

Lorenzo nodded slowly, meandering over to the bed and sat down beside him. “No, I’m sorry,” he muttered. “I ran out of here and got piss drunk last night, like some immature teen. I should’ve trusted you more. I guess I freaked.” He laughed, rubbing the back of his head embarrassedly. “I mean, it was obvious you guys were…close. Or, used to be. I think I’d freak out if I had to see any of my high school exes too.” He bounced his knee, looking at Zeke. “Did you want to…talk about it?”
---
Alliser smirked, pulling the collar of his coat up tightly. “I’m not sure you’re grown up enough to know,” he flashed a smile at them. “Did you really not eavesdrop? If I knew all it took was threatening to burn you I would have tried that much sooner.” He trudged through the snow. “Zeke’s going to be panicking about this all day, isn’t he?”

Zeke watched him come over, tightening his arms around himself as he sat down. "Don't apologize," he mumbled, his skin crawling. "I...was stupid. I just..." He looked up at him, his eyes wide, searching his face. "I'm with you now, so...that's what matters."
---
Levi snorted and looked away with a grin. "I didn't listen, don't worry. Honestly, that's not a picture I really need in my head." He shrugged and glanced back towards the bar. "Yeah, he'll be a wreck all day. All week probably. He's such a big baby."

Lorenzo smiled weakly at him, feeling as if Zeke was withdrawing into himself. “Yeah,” he said quietly, reaching over to grab his hand with a squeeze. “I’m probably gonna head out again soon. I promised Lauretta I’d be by to swap over a crate for food.” He felt like there was still so much to say, and yet couldn’t find the words to say it. “Try to find some company, today. I hate the thought of you staying cooped up inside all day long.” He leaned over to press a kiss to Zeke’s temple, before standing, tugging his shirt over his head as he made his way to the shower. He couldn’t say why his heart felt so heavy.
---
Alliser smiled, shaking his head. Truthfully, it was already beginning to eat at him, too. He hated the thought that Zeke was going to go back to his daily life as easily as if he had never been there. The thought of him playing the perfect boyfriend made nausea coil in his gut, and he abhorred the thought of anyone touching Zeke but him. But the boyfriend would be home, by now. His mind wandered, aching to send Zeke a nonsensical Tpath. Then he sighed. Trust Zeke to convert him to a simpering wreck within a few short hours. He looked at Layla earnestly, eyes tight. “I need you to tell me now, in no uncertain terms, that I’m a fool for wanting to see him again.”

Zeke looked up at him, a tiny smile pulling at his lips. "I'll try," he murmured, closing his eyes against his kiss. "I'm gonna get dressed and head downstairs." He waited until the bathroom door was closed before he stood and shuffled into the bedroom. He got dressed, his head in a fog and finally laid back on the bed. He closed his eyes. The sheets still smelled like Alliser. He'd have to change them. He groaned and pushed his hands through his hair. How could he do this? How could he still feel like this? He cared about Enzo. More than cared about him. And it's not like Alliser wanted any more to do with him. It'd been a quick fling, and that was it. So why couldn't he shake the urge to run after him? He rolled over onto his stomach with a loud groan and slammed his hands on the mattress a few times in frustration before tugging the old sheets off and tossed them in a crumpled pile in the corner. He remade the bed quickly and trudged downstairs.
---
Layla had kept quiet, secretly waiting for her friend to ask for her opinion on the situation. She raised her brows and shrugged. "No," she said with a simple smirk.
---
Sophia huffed. She hated this stupid cold. Bundled up, she trudged down the street. She was sick of being cooped up and hiding. After all, it was the end of the world for everyone--what else could happen that was worse? Other than it being freezing cold. A shiver racked through her body and she stopped with a sigh. Looking around, her gaze fell upon a bar, one of the only places that looked remotely open. With a grumble, she pushed inside and sighed at the sudden rush of warmth. "Whew..." she sighed, pulling down her hood and shaking out her hair. As she pulled off her gloves, she looked around. A few people were passed out in the corners, and there was a man mumbling to himself with his face buried in his hands behind the bar. She raised a brow and chose a table for herself near the fire.

Elroy tugged his hood over his head as they neared the library and were stopped but former Commando guards who frisked them all a little roughly before letting them inside. Elroy felt releived not to be recognized as he entered the dim of the library. A huge building that normally smelled of wood and books now smelled like the crowd of several hundred homeless bodies huddled on the floor or around designated fires burning in grates supervised by flame and air slingers to keep the smoke from choking the inside of the building. Elroy saw the parts of the library seemd sectioned off to provide shelter for different groups of people. It might make browsing for information a little more difficult than he had planned. Still right now he just really need to sit down. Half-starved, frozen and injured, he was almost falling where he stood. Sheila managed to help him to the less crowded second floor where he found an unused patch of floor and promptly fell asleep on his side.
Sheila was holding Bobby and stroking his head, frowning at someone stomping towards them.
"Get that dog out of here! People only!" he snarled.
"You're not in charge." Sheila snapped. "And Bobby's not going anywhere."
"You get that dog out of here or we add him to the cooking pot."
Sheila gasped, appalled. "I'd like to see you try. I'll end you." she showed her teeth, ready to snap this guy in two.
The man made a sudden step forward and was suddenly bowled over by two huge yellow lab mutts who growled and snarled in his face as they held him down. Around the corner, Angel limped closer using a crutch. "Rambo, Duke, heal." he grunted. He waited until the two dogs romped back to him, hackles still bushed out.
"You stay out of people's hair and leave their pets alone, or I'll add you to their stew pot." Angel pointed the crutch in the man's face. "Go on, beat it." he watched him scurry away and then turned to Johnny and Sheila. "Sorry for the rude welcome, I'm glad you two came into town." he sat in a chair next to them while the dogs sniffed at each other, tails wagging.
--
"I'll make a supply run later." Alan promised. "But for now its better to eat light so we can travel faster."
Angani picked at his food, eyeing Kaiser to make sure he was eating enough. Angani was already fed pretty well at his safe house. Being a medic they wanted to keep him around. Angani felt torn, go back to those depending him, or return with Kaiser to this new place. He couldn't leave him again. He wouldn't...
